Matthew Bauer leads BetterWorld Technology’s work in the Denver area. As both Regional Director and a Certified vCISO, he brings decades of experience in cybersecurity, community partnership, and ethical tech leadership to the role. We sat down with Matthew to talk about the region’s unique needs, the power of purpose-driven IT, and what’s shaping the future of business in the Rocky Mountain region.
Matthew, thanks for taking the time to chat. You lead the Denver region for BetterWorld, right?
Matthew Bauer: That’s right—I oversee our work in Denver and also serve as a certified vCISO for organizations that need more strategic cybersecurity guidance.
Let’s start at the heart of it. How does working at a purpose-driven company like BetterWorld shape the work you do locally?
Matthew Bauer: It’s a huge part of what makes this role so meaningful. Being part of a purpose-driven company means everything we do in Denver is grounded in ethics, sustainability, and community impact. That translates into the solutions we design, the partnerships we form, and the way we show up for local businesses and nonprofits. It keeps the work aligned with something bigger than just tech for tech’s sake.
We heard you’ve been connected to the B Corp movement from early on. What does that ethos mean to you today—and how does it show up in your day-to-day?
Matthew Bauer: I was actually involved in the early ideation of what became the B Corp model, so it’s something that’s very close to me. It’s always been about using business as a force for good—balancing profit with purpose and making sure we’re leaving a positive impact on people and the planet. At BetterWorld, that ethos is baked into everything, from how we engage clients to the way we build sustainable systems and support our own team.
What do sustainable or ethical practices look like for an MSP—and are clients in Denver really paying attention to that?
Matthew Bauer: More than ever. Clients in Denver are very values-driven. We see that in how they choose vendors. MSPs can lead in this space by using energy-efficient infrastructure, responsibly recycling and refurbishing hardware, and maintaining strong cybersecurity standards. Beyond that, it’s about working with ethical vendors, supporting inclusive hiring, and ensuring fair labor practices. These are more than just nice-to-haves—they’re differentiators in a market like Denver.
Are you seeing more demand for vendors who share those values?
Matthew Bauer: Definitely. Companies are seeking out mission-aligned partners. There’s a growing awareness that who you do business with matters. That includes sustainability, social responsibility, and transparency. We’re fortunate that BetterWorld has been built with those things in mind from day one—it means we’re speaking the same language as a lot of our clients.
What makes the Denver region stand out when it comes to IT needs and culture?
Matthew Bauer: It’s a really dynamic region. You’ve got a booming tech ecosystem, tons of startups, and big players across industries like healthcare, education, and renewable energy. There’s also a strong talent pipeline coming from local universities, and the dry climate and elevation make Denver an appealing place for data centers. But what really sets it apart is the entrepreneurial spirit—people here are collaborative, values-driven, and focused on innovation. It’s a great environment for MSPs who want to do more than just check boxes.
Are there any industries in the area that are especially suited for Co-Managed IT Services?
Matthew Bauer: For sure. We see strong demand from healthcare, legal, finance, education, manufacturing, and energy. These industries need robust compliance and cybersecurity solutions, but also want to keep a level of in-house control. Co-Managed IT is the best of both worlds—it lets organizations scale and stay secure without overextending their teams.
What kinds of challenges are Denver-area businesses facing when it comes to IT infrastructure and cybersecurity?
Matthew Bauer: Cyber threats are constantly evolving—ransomware and phishing are big concerns. A lot of businesses are also still figuring out secure remote work, and that’s not going away. On top of that, hiring technical talent is a real challenge. The demand is high, and smaller companies can’t always compete with bigger players. That’s where BetterWorld steps in—we’re able to offer strategic, hands-on support that fills those gaps and helps businesses stay ahead.
Really appreciate the insight, Matthew. Thanks again for your time.
Matthew Bauer: Thank you—glad to share what’s happening here in Denver.
